INFORMS is a
group of primarily graduate students studying Operations Research in
the ISE department. We hold weekly meetings on Wednesdays from 12:20
p.m. in Durham Hall Room 260 (conference room inside ISE main office)
where we like to bring in presenters from around the campus, and from
industry, to talk about their research and related activities. We are
interested in a variety of issues including: modeling, statistics,
simulation, optimization, scheduling, and others topics important to
our profession.
GOALS OF THE CHAPTER
- To promote operations research and the management sciences
- To provide a forum for discussions of developments in these fields
- To provide a network of individuals with the ability to broaden our collective knowledge
- To provide a social setting for students with similar interests to discuss these interests with one another
- To create a greater awareness of operations research and the management sciences at the graduate level
- TO HAVE FUN!
MEMBERSHIP
- We currently have approximately 25 members.
- Primarily graduate students from operations research and manufacturing options in the ISE department.
- We
welcome anyone who would like to know more about operations research
and the management sciences as well as people just interested in
increasing their knowledge base.

ACTIVITIES OF THE CHAPTER
We
hold weekly luncheon seminars on topics related to operations research,
management science, statistics, and mathematics. Seminars are given by
graduate students, professors from Virginia Tech, professors from other
universities, and industrial professionals. All seminars are held on Wednesdays from 12:20 p.m. in 260 Durham Hall (Executive Conference
Room). Lunch is provided (typically pizza), and everyone is always
welcome. We hope to have you join us soon!
